Q: How can I convert to Sikhism?

A: The first step would be to learn about Sikhism as much as you can. Learn about the teachings of Sikh Gurus. One can do that by browsing through the Articles, FAQ, Quotes, and Sikh Stories sections of realsikhism.com. One can visit the site from Other Sikh Sites section of realsikhism.com

You then can visit the Gurdwara Sahib. Talk to anyone at the Gurdwara Sahib and asked to be shown around. If you know a Sikh, you can ask him or her to take you to the Gurdwara Sahib. Sikhs will be happy to have you in the Gurdwara Sahib. You can join the congregation, sing hymns, meditate on God, and consume Langar with the congregation afterwards.

You should then read and try to understand more and more of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and hymns from Guru Granth Sahib Ji. One can start read the translations first but the goal would be to understand the Gurbani itself. This step will help you to understand God’s message and be in direct contact with Him without needing anyone in the middle.

You should then start living a Sikh lifestyle. Become vegetarian, keep uncut tidy hair, live an honest life and share with others.

Volunteer your time at Gurdwara Sahib. In addition to meditating on God and sharing with others, Selfless Service is also an important part of Sikh life. You can serve Langar or join some other tasks in Gurdwara Sahib.

Start reciting the daily prayers and wear the five articles of faith. You can then prepare yourself to take Amrit (Sikh Baptism) and become Khalsa (Pure Sikh).
