Since Sep 11, 2001 Sikhs have been victim of many hate crimes resulting in insults, personal injury and murder. To date, over 1000 hate crimes have been reported. Following are some of the incidents against Sikhs:

Sikh’s Hair Forcibly Cut
New York, May 24, 2007

The victim, 15 year old Sikh student, whose name is not being released in order to protect his identity, was allegedly approached by Umair Ahmed, who held the victim against his will and cut the victim's hair. Singh said that Umair Ahmed showed him a ring with Arabic inscriptions and scissors. Ahmed threatned to physically harm Singh.

Two Sikh men attacked in New York
New York, July 12, 2004

Rajinder Singh Khalsa and his cousin, Gurcharan Singh, were viciously beaten by the above assailants in July of 2004 on their way to a local restaurant. The intoxicated perpetrators began shouting profanities and making remarks against the victims’ turbans, which finally led to physical assault of both Mr. Khalsa and Mr. Singh

Vandals Deface Fresno Gurdwara Sahib
Fresno, Mar 14, 2004

Vandals spray-painted racist graffiti on the Gurdwara Sahib in Fresno over the weekend. Two large blue scrawls in front of the Sikh Association of Fresno temple warned: 'Rags Go Home' and 'It's Not Your Country.' Another message -- this one with a religious/cultural slur and a four-letter obscenity -- was scribbled on a rear door.

Avtar Singh shot and wounded in Phoenix Arizona
Phoenix, May 20, 2003

A truck driver seriously wounded in a shooting was apparently targeted because of his religious faith, police said Tuesday. Avtar Singh, 52, an Indian immigrant, had parked his 18-wheeler late Monday in north Phoenix and called his son to pick him up from a few blocks away.

Thugs beat Sikh In US, accuse him of being Bin Laden

Anger against Asians in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks continued in the US, the latest victim being 47-year old Surinder Singh Sidhu, a liquor store owner who was beaten by thugs accusing him of being Osama bin Laden. Los Angeles police list the attack on Sidhu as a hate crime.


Two Sikh men attacked near Seattle

Two Sikhs were attacked in the suburbs around Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, apparently in the mistaken belief that they are Muslims, authorities said. Sikh men who grow beards and wear turbans are sometimes mistaken for Muslims. The Sikh religion is from India and has no link to those suspected to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.

Balbir Singh murdered in Mesa Arizona
Arizona, Sep 15, 2001

Balbir Singh Sodhi was a Mesa, Arizona, gas station owner who was murdered in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks. On September 15, 2001, he was shot five times by a gunman (Frank Roque) and died instantly. After shooting Balbir Singh Sodhi, Roque drove to a home that he'd sold to an Afghan family near 32nd Street
