Q: Why do men sit on one side of the hall, while the women sit on the opposite side in the Gurdwara?

A: There’s no hard and fast rule on that. It’s just cultural. Often men and women will sit on opposite side of a congregation hall and sometimes the whole family will sit together.

Q: There is something very sweet provided in the Gurdwara to eat, what is that?

A: That’s called Karah-parshad. In India, particularly when somebody comes to ones house, he offers something to them. In the times of the Great Gurus, there was a tradition that all those who came to meet with them were given Karah-parshad to eat. This practice is still followed. The sweet is seen as a blessing of God and consumed as such.
